I am trying to change my display. I have tried to use ctrl alt and - to decrease the size but it doesn't seem to do anything.

My eyes hurt from having to be an inch away from the screen to see anything.

How do I change the resolution from 1600x1200 to something lower.

Well, what distro are you using? Each Distro has different ways of doing it. You can us Xconfigurator for Redhat, Drakconf for Mandrake, SaX for SuSE or just type or try xf86config for any Distro. Turbo uses turboxconfig for its distro I think, but unlikely your using it.
