display configuration

hi,
I am a newbie to linux... a few days back i tried installing red hat linux 7.3 on my machine... i have a Gateway FPD1800 flat bed monitor and NVIDIA GeForce 440 MX display adapter with 64MB video memory... I am not able to configure my display properly. I tried modifying the XF86Configure-4.5 as well as XF86Configure file manually and then i tried xf86configure but to no avail... can someone help me with this...

regards,
jay...

hi,
i tried running kdm, but all i can see is vertical lines in blue color, this is what i see everytime my system boots up... i have to press ctrl + alt + bkspace twice or thrice before i can switch to text mode... is there any other way... can i try reinstalling only the XFree86 environment again without disturbing the rest of the operating system??

What you should do is get the nvidia drivers.

There are two files, one for GLX and the other for the kernel module

you should not need to change your kernel, but you need the kernel source headers in /usr/src/linux

or you can tell the make file where they are, see the README in the kernel source folder

untar the files with this

tar zxvf filename

run make install in the NVIDIA_kernel-1.0-4191 folder

and make install in the NVIDIA_GLX-1.0-4191 folder

then you will need to have this in your XF86Config file

Driver "nvidia"

http://download.nvidia.com/XFree86_4....0-4191.tar.gz

http://download.nvidia.com/XFree86_4....0-4191.tar.gz

You can also install the new xfree if you want

just untar it and read the README in it's folder
