Disk space issue

My output shows -

[root@deluslabvi002 ~]#
[root@deluslabvi002 ~]# df -kh /opt/opsware
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
15G 14G 983M 94% /opt/opsware
[root@deluslabvi002 ~]# du -sh /opt/opsware
5.7G /opt/opsware
[root@deluslabvi002 ~]#

Where did the rest of 9 GB go in opt/opsware directory? Could someone please help? Any help is much appreciated.

Files which are still open but deleted use space and don't show in du. Same for blocks which were lost due to an ungraceful shutdown. A third possibility is that du may not be going into some hidden directories. Try it again with:

cd /opt/opsware
du -sh

df looks at the entire filesystem of the folder you are requesting. du, on the otherhand, only looks at the file/folder you are requesting the size of.
