Disk full...

Hi Guys,
I'm here again, today I tried to copy software from my pen-drive to my home directory(/home/mel). But got the "Disk full" message, well that partition is about 62Gb, and I have only been running linux for a few weeks and not installed very much, it seems a little hard to beleive.

I have been playing with backups, and that don't seem to work now? I get a massive window full of errors. I am trying to back-up to a partition on my windows drive, but it don't want to know.

Clicking on say a drive icon, flashes up the Open Office splash screen, but then nothing happens!!

Any help please?

Regards

Mel.

Actually the op means this.
df -k

or for more human readable option use this.
df -h

diskfull solved.. almost

Hi Dave & Brian,

df-h gave me a complete listing, the disk was full of TRASH as I had been moving and not deleting, but you don't always get the choice?!? (df-k worked once I got some disk space back)

Sure there was a trash can on the desktop at one time..

Next problem when I click on a drive or Pen-drive icon, I get the Open Office splash screen, then nothing. What have I done?
Right clicking and open have the same effect!!

Regards

Mel.

Run open office from the command line to see if it runs or post an error.

Running df -k would not give you any free space if that is what you mean. Only way is to delete the files like you mention. Sending to trash still uses space.

Brian
