Disapearing Options?

This is probably a really stupid question, but I just installed Mandrake Linux. When I first logged in, I had system optionts, console links in the K menu. Now I don't have any advanced functions. It looks as if I set myself up as a basic user. I need to install more apps from the mandrake CD but no longer have the link to get to the software installer thing.

Have any ideas? I am very new to linux. Even if I can just launch the software add/remove app via command line, that would be fine too.

P.S. It even seems as though my bookmarks are different. Is there an administrator account or something that I got logged into the first time, and now I am just a normal user?

it wont hurt and might help to type "update-menus -v" in the "run command" dialog box
