dig will not work external to the bind nameserver

I cannot get my nameserver to work properly. I can use dig all day from my network. Outside I get nada.

I can ping the machine. I can use host, dig, nslookup and it appears fine on the network.

I also checked with the registrar for proper setup.

I thought I might have a firewall issue and currently have the Fedora box connected directly to my UBR.

Please help!! I have read countless articles on this site as well as others to no avail.

Thanks,
Steven

nmap your external IP vs 127.0.0.1

My guess is you will see the DNS ports open on 127.0.0.1 and not on the external IP.

This might give you more insight. At this point it does sound like a firewall issue.

You are correct. Thanks. How should I open port 53 and 80?

Thanks,
Steven

Assuming the ports are open when you nmap 127.0.0.1, than the services are running. You would need to check your firewall rules and allow external IP access to those services. If you're running the GUI, this can usually be accomplished using some firewall GUI tool. Otherwise you'll have to read up on iptables/netfilter. SuSE is awesome... cause Yast will let you easily maniulate this.

Also, look into SELinux options if you're using Fedora. Not sure if you resolved this yet or not.
