Difficulty Setting up my network and keeping the Interner

I've searched numerous pages, man pages, and tutorials, but I'm confused. Every time I try to attempt the settings for my private LAN, I have to undo to keep my ISP. I have a Netgear wireless router and the documentation-info for it(WGR614V9). Would it be easier to install another ethernet card? I am using Ubuntu 14.04 (hopefully as a server, peer-to peer, or other). Can anyone give me an outline form of what and how to set up my LAN on my Linux Machine? I've tried another linuxquestions.org page on network addressing and I can't get it to work.

You will need to explain just how your machines are physically connected to the network and what you wish to achieve. There just isn't enough information in your post to help you at all.

Open the web browser in the PC and type the default IP address of the router. ...
    Configure the WAN port. ...
Go to LAN Settings and change IP address of the router. ...
Configure the DHCP server of the wireless router. ...

Can you access your router using the steps outlined at the netgear site below? Are you able to access the internet from the base machine. If so, explain at what point you are having problems.

Thank you, BW-userx. I found some helpful info on my camera security system, too.
