Gdebi is just a GUI front end for the dpkg command that is used in terminal as far as this biker is concerned.

Maybe some other member has a geekier answer than mine.

Hi...

They both are GUI based frontend utilities that are designed to accomplish the same thing, to install software from .deb packages on your copy of Ubuntu. Gdebi is a GUI based frontend for dpkg (a command line utility,) as rokytnji mentioned, that allows you to install .deb packages, I think in ways more directly (my opinion,) from packages that you would download from the internet or transfer to your system using a thumb drive, as examples. Synaptic is essentially a GUI frontend for APT (another command line utility which installs .deb packages) and can be used to retrieve and install packages from distribution repositories and other online sources more easily. Please see here and here for more information. I'm not sure if I've given a satisfactory explanation, so if you have any further questions, please feel free to ask.
