Dial-up Modem in Linux

How can I manually 'insmod' kernel modules written by me .
I wish to get my dial-up modem (Conantxt 56k)running
in a Debian(4.0) distro .
The kernel gives no error message during insertion , even the
mknod is succesful. But ppp refuses to recognise the modem
device.

Use wvdial utility to connect to Internet. It is pretty easy. Post here if you do not understand to use that and have problems.

Did you compile a kernel module for your modem?
Is it a Conexant modem?
Did you run scanModem tool?
