Dhcp says eth0 hw address is ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff

I am having trouble connecting to my router (or the internet) via my SIS900 onboard lan port, dhcp gathers the ip address etc, but i cannot ping my router or any computers attached to it. I have tested the cable/slot on another pc and it works ok. the sis900 module is running as are all the required services. I have tryed setting the configuration info up manually and still it wont work.

the output of ifconfig says

HWaddr FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF

i thought that was a bit odd.

please help

I know this thread is very old, but I wasn't having much luck fixing this searching for an answer and this was the first hit on google for "HW Address: ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff".

For anyone else running into the "ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff" network card issue (in my case the Asus NX1101/RTL8169SC under Fedora 17), I tried a different PCI slot and that resolved the issue.

Even re-seating the PCI card may fix the issue.
