devmon dead but subsys locked

I am using devmon with Hobbit monitoring tool. When I try to start devmon /etc/init.d/devmon start I receive devmon dead but subsys locked. I have removed the devmon file from /var/lock/subsys and tried to restart devmon, I still receive the same error. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated. My distro is CentOS release 5.2 (Final) 2.6.18-53.el5

Thank you,

Problems don't disappear by deleting lockfiles. Start Devmon manually (mind verbosity, logging and debug switches) and see if it crashes on something and if it does log somewhere look in the log.

Prolem solved

I learned the hard way how to properly clear out log files. My problem with devmon was I deleted the log file for it, created a new one which had the wrong permissions. One I correct the permissions I was all set devmon can now write to the log file.

Thanks again for your help,
