device_mapper took a hike

Slack 12

I've recompiled my kernel and when I go to run lilo I get:

/proc/misc: No entry for device-mapper found
Is device-mapper driver missing from kernel?
Failure to communicate with kernel device-mapper driver.

The lilo writes and all is well.

I don't think I need this dm stuff. It's just for encryption right? I've read that lilo now supports encryption or something along those lines. Can I do away with this error message without compiling stuff I don't need into the kernel? I am very frugal about my kernel having unnecessary stuff and left all this RAID, LVM stuff out, which is where the device-mapper choice is found.
