Device name changes each time I connect a USB drive? Can this be static?
Dear fellow members.
I have recently installed Archlinux on my fit pc at home and so far all is working perfectly. I have one problem which I am not to sure how to resolve. Each time I switch my external USB drive on the device boot name changes it is currently /dev/sdd1 before it was sdc1, I undestand it will becom SDD1 next time. I’m using my server as a media server running Twonky Media, however the internal disk on a fit pc is somewhat limited so I have connected a external usb drive to increase storage. The point is I do not want to leave the external drive on all the time only when I get home and want to watch / listen to music etc.. So I turn the drive off and on when needed, I need to configure Arch linux to always mount this usb drive (being the only usb drive I’ll attach) to /dev/sdd1. Could some one tell me if this is possible? If so how? Can I also go as far as asking for an explanation of what the commands in the answer do? Thank you for reading, thank you even more if you answered.. Regards Colin |
This can be solved with a udev rule.
