/dev/usb/ missing files under Mandrake 10.0

I'm trying to configure an Acer620u usb scanner under Mandrake10.0 and it's giving me a bit of a challenge. With the help of a buddy, we got pretty far with the setup but then one of the installation scripts (acerfirm) fails because it cannot find some files under my /dev/usb/ area.
When we looked at his installation (forgot which distribution), there are a number of files/sub-directories under this folder. Is there something specific that I need to install/configure to have linux dump the specific files/libraries into this directory to support usb devices?
