Determining IP

Hey all,

I'm going through the O'Reilly book on Apache right now, and to get my experiments to work I need to multihome my ip address (that is assign more than one ip address to the same ethernet interface (eth0, in my case)) so I can test out different virutal servers. I 'manned' ifconfig, but didn't find any info on multihoming. Is this the tool to use if I wanted to multihome my address? Also, how do you determine the ip address you've been assigned through DHCP? I know the command for Win2000 is 'ipconfig', so I guess what I was hoping to find (in addition to learning about multihoming) is the Linux equivalent of that command.

Thanks!
-Tim

Hi bluethundr!
for multihoming do it as,

ifconfig eth0:1 ip-address

this will assign 2nd ip to ur etherne card where as ur 1st ip will be now referred as "eth0:0" and so u can assign as many ips asit allows u....
enjoy.
abuot ur second question, i dont have any idea now bt just to guess, 'ifconfig' is the command to that solution also...
