detecting devices that are not installed


hi all,

if you want to see what all your devices are one uses lspci,

how do you see what devices are not installed?

Hi -

"lspci" is handy for PCI devices.

"lsusb" is the equivalent for USB devices:
http://linux.die.net/man/8/lsusb

PS:
The trend for all devices is hot-pluggable/dynamically configurable. From that perspective, asking "What devices aren't plugged in?" is much like asking "What is the sound of one hand clapping?". To know, is to achieve Enlightenment ;-)

Ummm ... that wasn't a very clear question. You want
to see the list of *possible* devices the kernel and/or
lspci know about?

/usr/include/linux/pci_ids.h
