Desktops taskbar doubt
ok I've started using Linux ubuntu since yesterday and I would like to know if there is any way to make each desktop's taskbar independant.....by this I mean that 4 example if Im using firefox in one desktop I dont want it to appear in another desktop's taskbar....is it possible??
Thx. |
Hi and welcome to LQ.
As far as I know that feature is not yet available. |
It must be possible, my system running Gnome 2.20 does this by default, but I can't find an option anywhere to turn it on or off.
|
You may try KDE (kubuntu)...and there right click on taskbar ...Configure panel...Taskbar....and unmark "Show windows from all desktop"
Good luck! |

...there must be some way to change this without changing to kubuntu... |
ok I now know kubuntu but my opinion is that it looks to much like windows vista??...maybe Im wrong but thats the feeling I got after looking at reddazz's kubuntu vs ubuntu pictures...
|
Have you installed Ubuntu 7.10? Could you check the the version of the gnome panel: right click the panel -> 'about panel' It should say 2.20.1
The default behavior of this gnome version should already be like you want it. |
yes its 2.20.1 but it seems like I maybe changed something and thats why this happened....but I dont know what I did....but the thing is if I was able to turn it on....Im supposed to be able to turn it off right?

In Xubuntu the xfce4 panel applets Icon box and task list both offer the choice of showing applications running on all desktops or not.
I can't believe the Gnome task bar doesn't have a similar function. |
There is a way to play with this setting. Are you using the Compiz cube by chance? That is what I was having issues with. I had to play with compiz-config to tell it to show 4 workspaces, instead of one, I believe. I had to do some searching myself to figure it out. If this still isn't solved when I get to my home computer, I'll post more.

Yes Im using the compiz cube...Ive been trying to find where to change this but I couldnt
|
please help me...
|
Are you using the standard Gnome taskbar or the Avant Windows Navigator dock bar?
I'll load up the Ubuntu live CD I have lying around and see what's possible. |
Im using the standard 2.20.1 Gnome taskbar...ok thx
|
Right. Here's what I get
1: Right click on Windows List handle (two columns of grey dots to the left of the application) 2: Choose Preferences from menu 3: Under "Windows List Content" choose "Show Windows From Current Workspace". 4: Open a window in another workspace, then switch back to first workspace. Does the new window's title show up on the panel in the first workspace? If not then everything's groovy. |
that option was already on....:( I think I'll better install it again
|
You mean Gnome panel. right?
Make sure you do a complete uninstall first. |
Sorry for the delay.
