Desktop Ubuntu 18.04, digital audio, but no analog , Asus MB w/ALC883 on board card.
I'm trying to set up a Ham Radio controller desktop Asus P5N-D MB with Ubuntu 18.04 and JS8CALL and have audio in to the software, but cannot get audio out to the Transceiver. " pacmd list-sinks", shows 1 sink available, 1 card, ALC883 Digital, "HDA NVidia" , subdevice=0,device=1 & card=0. Only 1 port is shown, iec958-stereo-output:Digital Output (S/PDIF) active port is <iec958-stereo-output> Unfortunately, I need analog output from a front speaker port to drive the transceiver audio input. I have tried using Sound Output Troubleshooting, however when I use aplay with "Front_center.wav", I get a file not found msg, so I probably have a configuration problem to this new inswtallation. Being a relative newbie to Linux, (its been years since I played with it), I've already spent way to much time trying to resolve what is probably an easy problem. Where do I go from here?? Thanks Duane |
Which desktop are you using ?

Asus P5N-D MB, Intel D Processor at 2.8Ghz. uses Realtek ALC883 module. I'm not
absolutely sure 7.1 sound output worked with Ubuntu 16.04, but did work with Win7 before I repurposed the PC. |
