Desktop Shortcut Icons

Hi everyone,

I have had an extensive search through old threads but cannot find what I am looking for, though this has doubtless been asked before.
I would like to change my desktop shortcut icons to something a little more "groovy" as the standard ones are a bit dull. Is it possible? and if yes, are there any specific file types to use, png or gif for example or is there a specific icon file type.
I have a freshly installed copy of Mandriva 2006 and I am running KDE 3.4 which I feel needs a bit of life.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Pete

Most icon types in Linux are png, xpm and some desktops support svg. You can right click on individual icons, click on "properties" and change the icon by clicking on it from the dialogue box that will appear. To use a different icon set, you need to download them from kde-look.org and install the tarball from the KDE control center (in the icon section of Appearance & Themes).
