Desktop Shortcut

I have Suse 9.3 Professional and i want to create a desktop icon for my Dvd and Cd recorders .When i try to create a link to device it says only root can perform this operation.I can do it in root and it shows on the root desktop (Red) but not on the normal Kde Desktop.How do i accomplish this?.

Hi and welcome to LQ.

well, you can probably login as root, go to the user's home directory and create the shortcut and yeah. it might be a hidden file...
