Desktop question

I am a TOTAL newb. I was wondering if there was a way to lock (?) the boundaries of the desktop so applications cannot be placed outside the visable desktop area. I am using Mplayer and the music control part of the app has now gone to who knows where and i cannot seem to get it back to the visible part of my desktop. Can anyone help me out? any input is greatly appreciated. thanx in advance

what desktop environment are you using?

this usually works: right click the taskbar entry for the music control in mplayer, click maximize. once it appears (covering the whole desktop) resize it to your liking.
