Deskop effects

hi,
i'd recently instaled fedora core 6 mostly because i heard that it has cool desktop effects that are better then vista's.

after i installed fedora i tried to activate the desktop effects, but they didn't work.
i searched on google and i found something that it has something to to with beryl. is that right, because when i try to lunch beryl it crashes all my sistem.

i would apreciate if someone could help me.

whitch is cooler KDE or Gnome?!

Have you seen this?

I don't run Fedora, but this site's Debian equivalent helped me install Beryl on my computer.

P.S. - KDE is better!

is there a possibility for beryl not to work on my video adapter?! i have an NVidia Riva TNT2 32MB

As far as I know, Beryl isn't incompatible with specific video cards. It works just great with my on-board Intel graphics, so it should run on just about anything. Here are some other suggestions I have:

First of all, are you using the Beryl manager? It will show a jewel in the corner of your screen. If not, type beryl-manager at a console.
Also, are your graphics card drivers properly installed, with 3d acceleration? Have you tried any 3d games?
If all else fails, you may want to try installing Ubuntu instead. You said you just installed Fedora, so if you don't have anything important on that computer it may be a wise idea. Ubuntu 7.04 has a very easy way to install these effects. The Ubuntu effects do use Compiz though, which is very similar to Beryl.

If you want killer 3d effects, I have heard that the new Mandriva is the best option. I cannot vouch for it though, as I haven't tried it myself. You can find info here. Compiz/Beryl should be enough effects for anyone though. Here are some of my screen shots.

I hope this has helped you!

This is an old card. I have the 64mb version on my desktop, and had trouble running the 3D desktop features (on Sabayon Linux) with it, despite a fastish processor and a lot of RAM. I haven't tried Fedora, so maybe there's some fiddling you can do there, with a different graphics driver, or something. But my advice would be to get a newer video card if you want the super-fancy 3D effects that beryl/compiz/aigl/xgl offer.
