Dependancy HELL!

I'm a middle of the road Linux user. My house is 66.6 percent Linux, Iv'e got a home server running FC2 based Lorma Linux5 server and it was running httpd/proftpd/webmin and several other server type stuff on it. (That distro was the RH9 based Lorma Linux4)

My issue is, dependancies! My GAWED! I tried to apt-get install httpd and it handed my some lib dependancies, so I went and gooeled for them, tried to install then and THEY needed SHTUFF, so I googled and THEY needed the same libs that httpd needed .. WHAT GIVES?

How can I skirt this hell? I tried apt, then I tried source rpms, dev stuff, etc .. NOTHING workes around the dependancies. Is there some app I can install that has these dependancies in them? This is just insane!

Cheers all,

hi there,

if you want to escape dependency-hell, get yourself the Slackware-iso's and start using that.
as you are already familiar with Linux, it won't be a problem...

good luck.

Screw using packages, install from source, you'll save yourself a lot of effort.
