demudi install problems
 

I think I posted this thread in a wrong forum, this one seems more appropriate for this kind of question (sorry for double posting).

I wanted to try demudi so I downloaded an iso and burned it to disk (demudi-install_1.2.1-rc2i386.iso)

No problem with installation until reboot when it says:

ERROR: Removing 'alim15x3' : Device or resource busy
ERROR: Removing 'amd74xx' : Device or resource busy
ERROR: Removing 'atiixp' : Device or resource busy
ERROR: Removing 'cmd64x' : Device or resource busy
ERROR: Removing 'cs5520' : Device or resource busy
ERROR: Removing 'cs5530' : Device or resource busy
ERROR: Removing 'cy82c693' : Device or resource busy
ERROR: Removing 'gneric' : Device or resource busy
ERROR: Removing 'htp34x' : Device or resource busy

etc......... the list continues with different names being removed and at the end it says:

pivot-root: No such file or directory
/sbin/init: 431: cannot open dev/console: No such file
Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!


What is wrong? I cannot boot the system after restart.
Do I need to have Debian installed prior to installing demudi? I read somewhere about 3 CD demudi version, I used only one. Would that be the problem?

System specs:
Win98 (on the first partition)
SoundBlaster Live! 1024
256RAM

No, Debian should not be installed before demudi. demudi is a Debian system built for Multimedia entertainment. So everything installed fine but on reboot, you get errors. Now I don't have demudi but analyzing from what you have posted, I believe that it may be a bug in demudi itself. I'm lead to this conclusion because if the installation went fine, then there shouldn't be a problem.

I was hoping to play around with that distro, unfortunately I don't know how to make it boot. :(

Yeah, like I said, report it as a bug. Come to think of it, ask someone else or if you, yourself have a spare computer or hard drive and install it on their. See if it works.

I've tried about 20 or 30 different Linux distro's, and deMuDi 1.2.1 is probably the worst. Even the beta version of 1.2.1 ran better. I couldn't get any synth programs to talk to any other software, MIDI just wasn't happening at all, and Ardour has got to be the WORST audio program ever written.

There's several audio programs that need to be run as root, but you cannot log in as root... so it's rather useless. Yes, if you want, you can screw around with a whole bunch of settings, and you might get it working, but the point of this operating system is to have a fully functional audio workstation at your disposal, out of the box. I just went through hell with my deMuDi system, and still couldn't get the results I wanted.

I recommend finding a better solution, such as PlanetCCRMA (which I haven't tried, so don't flame me if this system is no better) or Windows 2000 (sorry to promote Windows on a Linux forum... it's like blasphemy... but I guarantee it will work better for high-end audio production.)

Then I recommend reporting the whole distribution as an unstable release =)
I'm not going to say anything about Windows =X
