dell wireless 1390 on kubuntu 6.08

Ive tried installing the newest verison of ndiswrapper, but everytime i hit make is says bash make command not found, ive tried it with sudo at the begining, same problem. ive used the ndiswrapper that comes froma repository, it says bcmwl5 installed properly, and when i run ndiswrapper -l it says driver present and hardware present. so now what exactly am i doing wrong?

Did you run iwconfig to mark the interface up?
# iwconfig wlan0 up
Note: your interface *might* not be wlan0 (typically it is with ndiswrapper, AFAIK, but I'm still a relative n00b when it comes to wireless on Linux).
