dell mini 910 ubuntu 8.04 then all of a sudden stuck in grub at line command

Hello. I have tried hours of followed fixes for my situation to no avail. I am stuck in grub line command and cannot get out. I have tried everything under the sun and nothing. every command comes back with disk read error, unrecognized command, etc. I am about ready to throw the mini 9 through the wall.

Maybe you just need to fix your GRUB? One easy way to do this is with the instructions at http://www.supergrubdisk.org/ Good luck!

Also do you have important files on the computer that you need to save? If so, you can boot with an Ubuntu Live CD (or Live USB) and copy the files over to a removable drive for safe keeping.

While you are at it, you might consider installing a newer version of Ubuntu... good instructions at http://ubuntumini.com if you're interested.

Can you boot either Ubuntu?
If not, do you have a LiveCD or USB to use? Don't know if your laptop has a CD drive?
Were any hardware or software changes made immediately prior to this problem? Any updates?
Have you been successfully booting your different versions of Ubuntu?
Is one a new install?

hey guys - i have tried all of your ideas still to no avail. is there a command i can give grub (cli) just to get back into ubuntu or anything else besides cli? the dell mini has no disc drive so everything must be dome by usb thumb. that is a lil sticky as well because the mini won't recognize it either.

You can try booting using your broken GRUB (instructions are for SUSE but might work for Ubuntu): http://opensuse.swerdna.org/suseboot...tml#brokengrub

I think it will be easiest however if you can boot SuperGrubRescue or Ubuntu in "live" mode, then rescue your files and reinstall GRUB (or install the current Ubuntu release). You don't need a CD drive; you can create a "Live USB" on a flash thumb drive.
