Question Deli Linux Root Disk Problem

Hello,

I'm trying to install Deli Linux on a Packard Bell with a 486DX2 CPU and 24MB of RAM. This system BIOS only allows booting from the floppy drive or hard drive not the CDROM drive.

The problem I'm having is that after the boot disk loads the RAM DISK and asks for the root disk to be inserted and I <enter> to run the root disk I get the following on screen and the floppy drive just spins (I let it run for almost an hour just to see).

RAMDISK: compressed image found at block 0
divide error: 0000
CPU: 0
(The following lines have long strings of numbers and letters I didn't copy down)
EIP
EFLAGS
eax ebx ecx edx
esi edi ebp esp
process swapper
Stack
Call Trace:
code

If anyone needs the exact numbers/letters in these lines I will provide them.

Because I am a I may be doing something stupid and not know it.

This has been a fun project for me since the computer was in pieces and at first wouldn't pass the POST test at start-up. I'm hoping to fully resurrect the computer with the DeLi Linux OS.

Any help would be appreciated

Hi,

I just gave a quick look at the DeLi Linux site. (Might become an interesting distribution!) I found the instructions a little vaugue, but it is clear that you should have created two floppies before starting: one from the *.dsk file you selected and one containing root.gz. This second disk contains your ram disk, which I gather they call the "root disk."

I appologize if I am plodding a bit too much. I am not completely clear what you had done. You boot from the first disk, and I would guess it then asks for the second disk.

If this is not what you did, try it. If this is what you did, and it is at this point you got the error, then I am guessing that your second disk is defective in some way. I would just create another one from a fresh floppy and try again.
