Thumbs up deleting directories

I am trying to remove a html directory from my test box but I cant because there are files in it. IS there a quick way to delete the directory without first deleting all the files first?

thanks for your help

rm -rf /directory

Be care not to run as root and not to leave any space after the / or it will remove everything.
