deleted partitions and stuck in gnu grub (only Linux as OS)

Finaly I got my laptop, but there was Linux instaled on it, as trying to remove it. Started with deleting partitions and created new partition in size of whole HDD trough "fdisk". Then rebooted and stucked in grub> . When typing code "grub> geometry (" and pressing Tab it shows "Possible disks are: fd0 fd1 fd2 .... fd7 hd0" but no cd.
only code "geometry (hd0)" returns "drive 0x80: C/H/S = 1023/255/63, The number of sectors = 312581808, LBA"
with others I recieve "Error 25: Disk read error"

and also it doesn't boot from CD

Please help me to solve this problem to remove linux completely, and to format HDD.

Do you have booting from CD set in the bios? That isn't really a grub issue/

Sounds like your BIOS is set to boot from disk before CD. Enter your BIOS (usually F2, delete, or similar) and set it to boot from CD before it checks the hard drive. Then insert your operating system's install disk and enjoy!

Yes I have set to boot from CD as first device, and HDD as the last device.

In which case your CD is not bootable/corrupted or you CD-drive is not working properly.

By the way, what do you want to install on your laptop?

Hi there,

To make sure that the priority is set correctly,
Disable booting for the time being from the Hard Drive and make sure that the system is detecting your CD drive with the correct options such as SATA,IDE etc

regards

Maybe you can tell us how you solved it so others that find this thread can learn from it.

I found in some forum (I don't remember where) that installing Win98 can help. Started to instal and stucked with some RAM problems (Win98 can't work if too much RAM, or something like that) Then created bootable XP disk and instaled XP.
