Deleted files accedentily


I am very new to linux. I was deleting some extra files from my server by using #rm command while i have seen many directories became empty or lost

plz let me know how can I recover them??

You will need to indicate what the filesystem is.

Google for "linux undelete". There are some recovery live distro's available on sourceforge or freshmeat that may help.

In the terminal (command line) there is no "undo" or trash function. But the files are still--in principle--recoverable. The important thing is to not do anything that would write to the disk.

What is the file system?

Search here and on Google using "file recovery" + maybe "linux" and the name of the filesystem---eg: "Linux ext3 file recovery"

Here is one package that I hear a lot about:
