well, if you delete something in console with the delete command, it goes into the ether

if you delete files in gnome/kde, I guess they're just moved to a directory in ~/Dekstop/Trash (or possibly ~/.trash).
If you want to uninstall installed packages, you better use your distro's package manager, which will probably leave no trace of the files. Where exactly the files of a package are installed depends on your distro, and unfortunately I have no experience with mandy.
