delete private data in FF
 

I have an Asus (linux) which I borrowed from a friend, and I now need to return it.

I am trying in FireFox to delete all browsing history, but it doesnt seem to work.

I go:

Tools:
Clear Private Data (then I check all boxes)
(then I click the button "CLear private data now")

However, absolutely nothing happens! Can it be so that the admin has disabled clearing of private data, and if that is the case, how can I enable the option to clear private data again?


Where are all the cookies, temp internet files etc saved, maybe I could delete them directly instead of using FF?

How do you know it hasn't happened?

there would be directory named .firefox
It has the private files for FireFox

You can control which private data is deleted by going to Edit-> Preferences, then select the Privacy tab.

The Private Data section allows you to clear private data immediately or on shutdown, and the Settings button lets you choose what is considered private data.

I guess browsing history isn't checked as private by default, but you've probably deleted passwords and cookies etc.

As contusion says, you can delete the ~/.mozilla/firefox directory if you want to be really sure; this is probably safest in your case as you are returning the laptop to someone else. But this will delete everything including any add-ons you have installed and any preference changes you have made, so it's not ideal for day-to-day use.

@contusion- its in ~/.mozilla/firefox/{some profile identifier}/ and you'll struggle to find the history in there.

@OP- as rjlee says, you may as well clear this directory; it'll clear history and will be automatically regenerated next time firefox is started.
