Delete mail on server with Evolution
Hello,
I used to use Outlook Expres. When deleting mails from Trash, the mails are deleted from POP server.
Moving to Linux (Fedora 4) I started to use Evolution. When I delete mail from Inbox, Evolution moves it to Trash. When I delete or expunge messages from Trash, they are deleted on local PC, but remain on POP server (compared to OE).
Does anybody know, how to make Evolution to remove mails from POP server when emptying Trash?
I don't want to delete the mails immediately when downloading to Inbox (checkbox leave messages on server) as I use both Evolution and webmail access to my POP mail account.
Thanks,
Suchos

You should see in those same options of leave messages on server a option to delete mail from server when you delete it from you inbox.

To delete Email from the server in Evolution: Edit > Preferences > [select your Email account] > Receiving Options > uncheck "Leave messages on Server"
If that box is checked, your Email will remain on the server, if it is unchecked, it will be deleted from the server

Delete mail on server with Evolution
Thanks for responses, but none of them solves my problem.
To jstephens84: I'm using Evolution 2.2.3 on Fedora Core 4 and there is no other checkbox than "leave messages on server".
To J.W.: That's what I don't want to done. Once downloaded to my Evolution on PC, the messagess should remain on server to be accesible via webmail UI. Only if I delete them either on PC, either in webmail, the messages should be ultimately deleted.
Any idea? Another mail program?
Thanks,
Suchos

I'm confused, since my post addresses both scenarios. Again, if you want the Emails to remain on the server after you download them, then check the "Leave messages on server" checkbox. If you want to delete Emails on the server after downloading them locally, then uncheck the "Leave messages on server" box.
The issue here is that you need to tell the *server* how to handle your Email while you are in the process of downloading it, and your only options are either to delete it keep it. Once you've downloaded an Email to your local machine, any subsequent actions to you take locally (eg, clicking "Trash" or whatever) are invisible to the server, ie, one cannot assume an Internet connection at the time a user clicks on the "trash" icon
