Defaults?

So I'm very new to linux and I'm using Mandrake 10.1 for the time being and I'm loving it. I'm thoroughly confused but thats ok, its to be expected. So far I've managed to install GAIM and Firefox and thats about it and to be honest, I'm not sure how I managed either of those, blind luck I guess. Anyway, I'm using GAIM and when I click a link in one of my buddies profiles then it automatically opens up Konqueror for the web, how can I set firefox to be my default web browser? Also, is this different across different distros b/c after christmas i have a week of nothing to do some I'm gonna install both suse(not sure which version) and FC3 just to try and learn. One last thing. I'm when using KDE(b/c text lines are way out of my league I've tried searching the entire drive (using find file and looking in / ) and everytime the program locks up, anyone know whats up with that?

Gaim should have options in its settings/preferences to set the default browser.

Start GAIM, click preferences. Click browser. From there, you can select the default browser. Note: Try placing questions like these in Linux - Software forum. It's more likely to get answered there.
