Default Locales differences??
Im in process of installing Debian Srv...now it asks me for the above Default Locale.
Any places where I can see the diff btw the Locales?? Like btw da_DK.UTF8 and en_DK.UTF8 Any good sites that explains or show the diff??? |

DK means country denmark. UTF-8 means unicode characters utf-8 format. en means english. |
I think that OP knows what it means, he wants to know what's the difference in how they work

What does it mean one is danish and the other english? I mean which effect does it have if I install one over the other. Maybe en_DK.UTF8 means the actual day names will be in english but formats will be still danish?? da_DK.UTF8 will be danish day names w danish format?? |
You can see locale description in /usr/share/i18n/locales/<LOCALE>, for example /usr/share/i18n/locales/en_DK

I am not aware of such site. I uploaded all locales to my website, it's only 6.2 Mb: http://drabczyk.org/locale/locales/. For example for en_DK: http://drabczyk.org/locale/locales/en_DK

The locale will control the following things:
1. The language used by your desktop and programs 2. The sorting order: e.g. Danish puts æ after z 3. Number format: 1.000,12 versus 1,000.12 4. Paper size: USA doesn't use international sizes 5. Weights and measures: USA doesn't use metric system 6. 12 or 24 hour clock as default 7. Default currency 8. Date layout: 01/02/15 or 15/02/01 or 02/01/15 and probably a few other things... |
