Debian x64 installation

Hi.

I have a 4.4gb x64 debian ISO burnt onto dvd (recent download) That I have been toying on intalling onto my N.L.E. PC as dual boot system with (hack-spit) XP.

What my question is.....

What programmes can I expect the x64 install to be able to run ?

I'm not a gamer at ALL, so scratch that.

Will FireFox run (or is it called IceWeasel?)

Thunderbird ?

media players .. XMMS ?

What about Shoutcast streaming ? I run a computer event twice a year Called Big Bash in which we live stream to the world. Currently we HAVE to use nsv (Winamp) is htere anything available to do that. I mean actually broadcast, not tune in?

Do you all think I would be wiser just to stick the i386 version on instead ?

Recommendations greatly appreciated. I'm getting the extra Hard drive tomorrow to install this on.

Those are all easy questions. The answers, of course, are yes, yes, yes, ...

But if you couldn't figure that much out yourself, you may not be ready for Debian.

Thanks for the reply.

Knowing that Firefox, Thunderbird, XMMS all work flawlessy under x64 jurisdiction is good news. WouldI be correct then in my assumption that plugins such as flash, Java etc work ok as well then ?

As for being a newbie.. Well, Hands up.. I'm guilty.

Although I have had Debian PPC installed on my amigaOne for 2 and a half years, apart from the browser issue there wasn't much point running it over Os4.

Now that I'm giving up videoing weddings I dont really need the NLE capable software anymore and thats why I was going to install debian on the PC.

There is still no Flash for 64-bit ... one is coming. In the meantime, Gnash works well enough for me.

There is no Java plugin for 64-bit ... I have Konqueror installed which does not need a Java plugin to run applets.

Recommendation: Install Etch rather than Sarge.
