Debian won't install!!!

i'll install cd1 just fine, than it reboots so it can finish the install from the hard drive, but when it does this it gives me this error:

pivot_root: No such file or directory
/sbin/init: 426: cannot open dev/console: No such file
<0>Kernel panic: Attempted to kill init!

I've tried reinstalling several times and have even downloaded the image again...any help?

use the net-inst disc.. it will download everything right from the net... no need to download a bunch of CDs.. go ahead and use sarge.. it's plenty stable...
