debian with kernel2.6.4 does not support my ps2 mouse.

debian with kernel2.6.4 does not support my ps2 mouse.

i have my debian30r2 installed yesterday,then i upgrade kernel from 2.2 to 2.6
,but i found that my mouse(ps2) does not work when i start x,it reports:
_------------------------------------------------------
(**) Option "Device" "/dev/psaux"
(EE) xf86OpenSerial: Cannot open device /dev/psaux
No such device.
(EE) Configured Mouse: cannot open input device
(EE) PreInit failed for input device "Configured Mouse"
--------------------------------------------------------

section of XF86config-4:

Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Configured Mouse"
Driver "mouse"
Option "CorePointer"
Option "Device" "/dev/psaux"
Option "Protocol" "PS/2"
Option "Emulate3Buttons" "true"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
EndSection

when i cat /etc/psaux under kernel2.6,it's show me message below:
cann't open device /etc/psaux

i do have the file /etc/psaux there.

but when i swith to old kernel(2.2 when i finish debian3 installation),it works
properly.

so,i think my new kernel doesn't suport my ps2 mouse.

who can help me or give some tips?(i am a newbie, please show the steps in detail.thank you)

thanks.

ps: i upgrade my kernel followed tips below:
add to /etc/apt/source.list
deb http://ftp.jp.debian.org/debian/ unstable main non-free contrib
deb http://marillat.free.fr/ unstable main
then
# apt-get install kernel-image-2.4.20-686

The reason is because its no longer called that. You need to understand the new 2.6 kernel is different try to comment out the entry and restart and it should find it.

What can someone think when you post an absurde title like that.

Not knowing how to configure the kernel doesn't mean kernel don't support your mouse. I am writing with a kernel 2.6.4 and my ps2 mouse working.

Ok well I'll post a link to a fedora site which will hopefully explain your issue. Its a situation where in your /etc directory it used to have modules.conf in there in now has change to modprobe.conf thats one thing and the aliases are different. I'm still trying to get 2.6 to work with Fedora core 1 I'll give you the link but I haven't got it to work yet. BTW I only started on it today.

Hopefully this helps
