Hi,

After a few weeks of using Mint, I ran into a problem where I can't access the internet at work or school but it works at home. I tried many things but still does not work. It is not my wireless card because when I switch to windows it works fine. Giving up on Mint... switching to Debian. Let's see how that goes.

Debian + XFCE is a great combination, if you like a classic DE. I would use it or Cinnamon before I'd go near MATE.
Hi cortman;Hi cortman;i also have an Apple 250 GB HD, iMac PowerPC G5, 20"Screen,CPU 2.00 GHz, 1.5Gb Ram,Mod. M9845LL/A.
I installed from a Mini Debian 7.1( WEEZY)64 bit Kernel Linux,-PowerPC64 Gerome .3.4.2.

I also tried to install Ubuntu, lubuntu ppc,but i could never get the Desktop running also tried Fedora 17 never could not install it,but with Debian Wheezy it works out of the box just fine,
i tried also other desktops that come with the packages XFCE4,gnome2 classic,KDE,but they do not work very well within Gnome3,they work but they slower and have problems,
and Gnome3 works great.
It seems there are not out there a better Distro for PPC G5 then Debian Wheezy, at least for users that no little about OPS installs. The only thing that i can't use is Flash player, i use Minutube which runs but freezes.

Cortman Hope we could exchange e-mails on how to make our ppc g5 run better, thanks

I'm not sure what you mean. Those are completely different DEs, they do not run WITHIN gnome3, they run INSTEAD of it. You select which one you want to use when you log into the machine. If you want to switch, then you need to log out, change which one to use, and log back in. I HIGHLY doubt that xfce and gnome2 ran slower than gnome3, unless you were doing something incorrectly.

Are you talking about imac PPC G5? Do you have one ? have you tried to run Debian wheezy on a PPC g5 ? If you do we maybe can discuss this matter.
I have other Pc's that have no problem to run any distros with no issues,so let's understand each other. If i say the PPC g5 Runs better with the default Gnome3 is because i tried them all,and iĞm not lying.

I do not, I'm simply commenting on your phrasing:

These other DEs do not run within Gnome3 (or any other DE). This makes me question HOW you were running them, and if it was a valid test. Gnome3 is pretty resource-heavy, gnome2 and xfce are not, this is what makes me question your evaluation of their relative performance. I can't imagine a single scenario in which gnome3 would actually be more efficient and run faster than gnome2 or xfce, but maybe I'm missing something.
