Debian screen resolution problem

Hi,

This is my first day with Debian and first trouble.
Here is my problem,

I have a laptop with a 1280*800 screen resolution(Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pro).

But my eyes are no longer enough to see tiny characters, for this reason i have one 23" 1680*1050 external monitor.

First my computer did not see big monitor, so i installed Multiple Screens program.
with this program i can enable VGA / LVDS or TMDS1 .
But i can not see 1680*1050 resolution at VGA resolution mode. The biggest resolution is 1280*800 as laptops mini screen.

How can i use 1680*1050 at big monitor?

Thanks for your answers.

And also every time i restart debian i have to open Multiple Screen and open VGA. How can i open VGA automatically at starts.

You do realize, typically, higher resolutions mean smaller icons/text unless you manually adjust those items?
