Debian sarge - unable to start X
Yestarday I installed Debian Sarge (debian-netinstall).
I can't start X. The error message is: "cannot stat /etc/X11/X (No such file or directory), aborting" All packages were installed by default, I selected only "Desktop" & "File Server" packages to install. Maybe something is missing? And I can't understand: debian uses XFree86 or X.Org? I think XFree86.. But how to get X.Org on my debian machine? Help please |
try an apt-get install x-window-system

I had the same problem. I found that even though I told debian to install a graphical enviro it had installed none.
Short story is I had to use apt-get to install KDE (which didnt install X) and then fiddle with apt-get until I was able to get Debian to install X. |
