Debian Laptop install fails - both from floppy and hard disk

Debian install from floppy failed on my CTX laptop - the boot disk loaded vmlinux , but ended with "cannot load floppy module" "Kernel panic" only way out wae to turn off power

Debian install from the hard disk using GRUB and also using loadlin appeared to be more sucessful, but these attempts also failed to complete - after partitioning the hard disk - I got an error that the "device or resource was busy" and that the partition table could not be written to kernel

The hard disk installation is good till the drive is partitioned - the drive is recognized as a 2.2GB Fujitsu MHD2021AT IDE1 Master hda

I used the first scheme - all files in one partition - the installer tells me that the partiting is being done than after approval I select the "write to disk" option than the message "error informing kernel..."

after that a message that installer "failed to create system files"

I could use help on either the floppy install of the hard disk install

Welcome to LQ

Please post the specs of your laptop, just doing a quick search on CTX laptop it looks like it's a very old system. If it is, with limited ram I would try puppy or slackware. I have a old laptop and the only linux OS I could install was slackware.

2GB HD is very very small.. I would suggest DSL, Puppy, or Vector Linux as a good fit for that hardware.
(DSL is based on Debian if that is a factor)
