debian iso help

ok... i downloaded the debian cd image... i mage a bootable cd with the .bin file... now i can't get the pc to boot from the cd...i have an old compaq and the bios doesn't let me control the boot sequence, so i used a w98 boot disk with cd capabilities, and tried to run the .bin file but ot no avail.. any help?

you can make a linux boot floppy and then install from the cd-rom

i have the rescue and root floppies, and can start the install ...but when i try to access the files from the cd, it doesn't work... do I need to open up the .bin file to access the files individually first?
by the way, i'm an old fairfax native....fhs class of 2001..

Just out of curiosity... how did you burn the .bin file? Did you just burn the file directly onto the CD?

General Dude 05-23-2003 10:42 PM

i used roxio cd creator tocreate a bootable cd...

If you downloaded the iso...the official debian iso it is bootable already. All ya have to do is burn it and boot from it.....simple.But before ya do,check with the md5 file to see if ya have it all.

Umm floppies and rescue...bin???

No No....use Nero;
open nero
file/burn image
point to debian iso file
set burn speed
write

no need to "make" boot disk
no need to drag files or anything of sort, extract from bin,etc etc
I dont remember but if im not mistaken ez cd creator has a burn image function...shouldnt have to drag anything just point to the image file.

Now,you said you can start the install...so is it burned or not.....if ya can start the install and ya get to the part where it asks where ya want to grab sources from say INTERNET(provideing ya have fast connection) or ...the 6 other iso files that ya should have gotten(7 cd's)

i'll try nero first, i can start the install from the resuce and root floppies, but it doesn't give me a network option for the rest of the install....it looks like setting this type of install up is complicated, so i have just kind of bailed on that idea and decided to install from cd...
