Debian Installation


I have just installed the debian base system , and just want to apt-get a package ( apt-get install vsftpd ) but it doesn't work , I make sure the server is connected to internet , can advise what is the possible reason ?

"It doesn't work" is not a very useful description of your problem. Imagine going to a doctor and saying "I don't feel well" and expecting a cure based on that. Can you explain in detail what command you gave to install vsftd and what the response was from apt-get? Maybe then you can get some useful answers.
It should have been from the command line

sudo apt-get install vsftpd
or if you are logged in as root then omit the "sudo".

Did you try the Synaptic Package manager (System -> Preferences)

The Debian base system doesn't come with a GUI.

@ust: Make sure that your network is up and running

and that you have a proper /etc/apt/sources.list

You have to make sure that the package you want to install, vsftpd, is included in one of the repositories listed in /etc/apt/sources.list.
