Debian Installation [etch 4.0-r3]
Hi to everybody. This is my first question in this forum. First of all, sorry in advance for my bad english [ITA].
I have used Gentoo Linux for about one year so I'm quite familiar with the Linux environment/mentality. I initially decided to use Gentoo because it's 100% customizable. Them I have decided to migrate do debian for the long compiling times and because I have a 56k (analog 56k modem dialup!!), so I have big problems when I have to download sources etc. This is a short presentation about my life ;) I would ask someone... How can I install Debian without installing any sort of firewall? How can I install the K Desktop Environment instead of Gnome? (because I've downloaded and read all the installation manual but didn't understand how to pass the parameter (tasksel/kde-desktop)) This is my computer: MOBO: ASUS P5KC CPU: Intel Quad Core Q9300 overclocked from 2.5 to 3.2GHZ GPU: Point of View NVIDIA 8600GT 1024MB RAM OS: Gentoo Linux with optimized kernel 2.6.25-r4 HDD: MAXTOR 160GB SATA-1 RAM: Kingston 2GB/667Mhz (2x1G dual channel) SATA controller configured as IDE |
Debian doesn't configure a firewall by default during install.. although it will allow you to easily configure it afterwards..
You could use the KDE install CD 1 instead of the standard or Netinstall iso's |
Thanks for the suggestion. I imaginated that there were similar CDs. But if I want to use parameters like task="standard, kde-desktop", where I have to put them? I think I should pass them as kernel parameters, but I'm not sure.. thanks in advance
