Debian, Gnome. Sound is choppy.
Ok,
Hello everybody, my first post. I have installed Debian with X enviroment, web server, file server, and the sort. It installed very nicely, and was easy to set up with no errors. I boot, log in with GNOME, wanted to test a music file, and that's where the madness begins. The sound is very choppy, and it is not possible to hear anything, exept very choppy sound. I have not recieved any errors what so ever, and the system sounds play nicely (log in, notifications, etc.). I also tried watching a flash movie. The movie worked fine, but the sound was the same. Please help me with this, if you have a solution. -Boris Pierkov |
Still havn't found anything. Anybody know of a way to fix this?
|
check the volume control and make sure that the pcm control is no more then 3/4 of the way up , any more on mine and the sound goes really crackly and things.
|
What program are you using the play sounds?
And, for future reference, you might wantur own to wait more than an hour to bump your own posts. |
Sorry, pretty new to forums.
I have tried all the programs on my system. And it doesnt really matter where I put the pcm. -Boris Pierkov |
Try # alsaconf, then make sure all your sound programs have their options set to use the alsa plugin for sound i/o

Ok, it says that i have no PnP or PCI card available. Then it asks me if I want to probe legacy ICA sound cards/chips, but it will make my system unstable... would this be a problem?
|
hmm
do you happen to know what kind of card you have? You should give it a try, and see what happens. It's really odd that sound is working, yes alsaconf says you have no cards... |
Well I dont have a sound card. Its in my mother-board.

Ok, i tried upgrading my kernel to 2.6 and installing ALSA. now when i play my sound I get a long deep tune, like the horn on a freighter. How can I fix this?
