Debian doesn't find wifi/eth drivers but Ubuntu 11.04/10 does?

Debian doesn't find wifi/eth drivers but Ubuntu 11.04/10 does?
I really want to try Debian over Ubuntu as I'm told it's lighter. However the live CD nor the installer finds the any network drivers of my Asus K53E laptop. I've even manually gone along the list, selecting each driver but none are accepted even ones mentioned on other forums as the wifi driver for my model.
How do I get the drivers and debian to install? Thanks

They both are based on different kernels. Ubuntu has a newest kernel with support for newest hardware so I think that is why Debian doesnt work with your Wi-Fi.
If you want install Debian chances are you will need to install the NDiswrapper to make the wireless work for you.
I should mention I am not a Debian user so I dont know if that is going to work.

Thanks for the reply. This makes a bit more sense. I enjoyed Opensuse but I lost hair trying to work with the software installer. Debian is, IMHO, so much more easy. Do you know if sid would be a more compatible version of Debain.

In defend of OpenSuSE I will say YasT software manager is really easy and I don't see where you could lost your hair using it. It is in fact so easy lot of hard core Linux users don't like YasT because is too user friendly
Debian's philosophy includes only using fully open source software. Some drivers, notably wireless connection software, is proprietary. As already mentioned, you will need to add non-free to your source list, then down-load and install the drivers. I suggest looking at the documentation at www.debian.org and visiting the Debian forum. There are currently several threads concerning this issue.
