Debian does not recognize my SATA controller

Debian does not recognize my SATA controller. I have an Asus A8V Deluxe which contains a Via VT8237 chipset. Does anyone know what I need to do, so that I can install Debian on my SATA drive? (I have two SATA drives and run them as JBOD)

When I try to install I am asked to load either a module or a driver from my a floppy. It tells me that this item must be in the boot sector of the disk or something. Sorry I'm not providing more specifics. I'd have to try to install it again to get them. I suspect, though, that some people here will know exactly what I'm talking about.

thx

Which Debian version are you trying? I have Debian Sarge and it's picking up the sata controller on my motherboard.

I have 3.0. Maybe I should just go ahead and get 3.1.

If you have a broadband connection use the net-installer . Once you have a boot prompt, after booting the cd, enter linux26 which will install the 2.6 kernel which supports sata. You are using the old stable version woody which is 3.0 and sarge is the new stable 3.1.
