debian and sound?
 

Hello,
I am trying to run debian on an apple G4 dual. Everything seems to work ok except the inegrated sound. If i run a kde session it seems to play sounds, but not in gnome? When i run audio applications I get various errors, and the desktop volume control dosent seem to want to move??
Also could anyone explain what open sound is?
I am determined to get the hang of this because I want to use Linux for music production.

Tried running alsaconf, alsamixer?

Thanks. I did indeed do asla config etc. and have figured out many things. My main problem was that I wasn't understanding that users had to belong to groups.
