debian: alsa snd-ens1371 probs

hi all,
i just compiled the 2.4.22 kernel and activated sound card support for the kernel. i read the page about the ens-1371 chipset on alsa-project.org but the damn card still wont work..
i downloaded alsa-driver, alsa-lib & alsa-util, installled everything but when i do a "modprobe snd-ens1371" i get:

/lib/modules/2.4.22/kernel/sound/pci/snd-ens1371.o: init_module: No such device
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters
/lib/modules/2.4.22/kernel/sound/pci/snd-ens1371.o: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.22/kernel/sound/pci/snd-ens1371.o failed
/lib/modules/2.4.22/kernel/sound/pci/snd-ens1371.o: insmod snd-ens1371 failed

i admit that i dont have a clue of what i did wrong..
any help is apreciated :)

Did you run the 'snddevices' script from alsa-driver? This creates the various /dev files that ALSA needs.

yes i did. the output above resulted after installing alsa-driver, alsa-lib and alsa-util and running /usr/share/doc/alsa-base/examples/snddevices
